BARLOWORLD EQUIPMENT SHOWROOM
BARLOWORLD EQUIPMENT
HEAD OFFICE AND SHOWROOM
Barloworld Equipment, a dealer of iconic Caterpillar earthmoving equipment, envisioned a state-of-the-art facility that would serve as a flagship showroom for their heavy equipment. The objective was to create a design that balanced iconic aesthetics with functional practicality while maintaining a cost-effective solution. The architectural innovation is characterized by an undulating curved shell, inspired by the building's primary purpose of housing equipment. This bubble-like form includes enclosed and covered spaces for the client-facing sales and rental departments. The length of the showroom is supported by a detailed steel structure that emphasizes the volume of the space. To the north, the full-height, flush-glazed, unitized façade, along with vertical sliding doors, defines the shape of the enclosed showroom. To the south, the office component is stacked and features cantilevered office pods and meeting rooms that overlook the iconic equipment. The eastern side of the building incorporates an external seating and dining area nestled under a canopy of trees and soft landscaping, enhancing user functionality and circulation towards the grand entrance. This entrance is flanked by reception and client greeting areas, creating a welcoming environment.
The ground-floor area utilizes natural materials that connect seamlessly to the main entrance ramps and stairs, forming a central circulation spine. Inside, the showroom features a landscaped spine that acts as a threshold between the showroom and office spaces. The showroom itself plays a crucial role in highlighting the core of the Barloworld Equipment business, serving as a live advertisement for the brand.
