B. BRAUN
INTEGRATED PHARMACEUTICAL PLANT
B. Braun’s new integrated pharmaceutical plant converts a green-field site on Longmeadow Boulevard into a 6,435 m² hub for offices, laboratories, warehousing and production. Paragon Architects South Africa and developer Zenprop set the facility as a visible marker to passing traffic while opening long views toward the Modderfontein reserve, giving the German healthcare group a clear corporate address without defaulting to an anonymous “big-box” shed.
The mass is broken into interlocking roof and façade planes of different heights and depths. Stepped sheeting and contrasting cladding wrap pulled-out wall elements, creating a rhythmic pattern that echoes the brand and meets estate guidelines. Dynamic cantilevers and recessed glazing cast deep shadows, reducing apparent scale and humanising the envelope.
Internally, flows are tightly choreographed: raw-material intake, hi-tech production lines, and finished-goods dispatch occupy discrete zones, while a glazed office-and-lab wing fronts the boulevard to showcase R&D. Modular planning allows future expansion, and robust, low-maintenance finishes keep life-cycle costs in check. Completed in 2020, the plant pairs precise massing with rigorous service coordination to lift an industrial brief into a signature corporate landmark for Longlake Business Park.
