AFGRI HEADQUARTERS
AFGRI HEADQUARTERS
CORPORATE HEADOFFICE
Straddling the Johannesburg–Pretoria motorway, the AFGRI Head Office rises as two slender office wings sheathed in a continuous, curving concrete shell. Lifted clear of the ground on a fully glazed podium, the shell appears to float, its porcelain-white ceramic-tile skin catching sun by day and headlights by night. The fluid geometry bends and folds like an endless ribbon, giving the building a memorable silhouette for passing motorists while presenting a softer edge to the neighbouring low-rise suburb.
North and south façades are fully glazed to pull daylight deep into open-plan interiors; the sun-exposed north side is screened by horizontal aluminium louvres that temper glare without interrupting views. Inside, a light-filled atrium stitches the two wings together, promoting natural ventilation and visual connection across floors. Generous floor plates taper at the edges, creating informal breakout zones that overlook the landscape and motorway beyond.
Ground-floor amenities—cafés, meeting suites and a landscaped forecourt—activate the podium and draw activity to street level, turning a noisy infrastructure edge into a lively workplace address. Together, the sculptural shell, refined material palette and climate-responsive envelope recast AFGRI’s image from rural co-operative to progressive agribusiness, setting a new benchmark for design quality within the precinct.
