144 OXFORD, ANGLO AMERICAN
CORPORATE HEADOFFICE
Before the global mining company Anglo American and the De Beers Group selected the eight-level flagship building at 144 Oxford Road, designed by Paragon Architects, for their new Johannesburg headquarters, Paragon Interface had already conducted an analysis of their workplace strategy and defined their future requirements. The move, after nearly 100 years in the CBD, required a progressive, connected workspace for a technologically advanced organisation. The workplace is designed to build collaboration, drive innovative thinking and leverage future technologies, which include plug-and-play AV systems, a globally linked room booking system and smart building technologies. Collaborative workspaces positioned at key circulation points encourage interaction, balanced with fixed focused workspaces to offer employees choice in how and where they work. The brand’s global corporate identity and classic contemporary design aesthetic have been sensitively drawn into distinctively South African environment featuring rich, resonant colours and textural influences rooted in local landscapes and cultural heritage. The result is a forward-looking, healthy, occupant-centred environment that tangibly embodies Anglo American’s organisational values. The scope included extensive dining and restaurant facilities on the ground floor, and value-add facilities such as a gym and wellness centre, training centre, travellers centre and employee services centre.
