SASOL PLACE (INTERIORS)
SASOL PLACE
CORPORATE HEADOFFICE
Paragon Architects had already been appointed to carry out the base build architecture of the new global head office for multi-national petrochemical company Sasol when Paragon Interface independently won an invited competition for its interior design and space planning. This presented a unique opportunity to deliver a fully integrated architecture and interiors service at scale on a brand-new landmark building. The new corporate office consolidated the operations of 3,500 employees previously occupying 18 buildings. It represented an opportunity to re-envision the workplace as a high-performance corporate facility that addressed both business and spatial efficiency, linking transformational spatial planning and corporate reinvention. The architectural concept began with an abstracted interpretation of the company logo – a central sphere with six orbiting atoms – which translated architecturally into a core with surrounding business units linked by a series of bridges. The interior finishes and detailing reinterpreted the distinctive staggered line on the external facades expressed in a sophisticated monotone palette of blues, greys and whites aligned with Sasol’s branding. Unique design elements were executed using cutting-edge 3D software, and frequently involved the extensive collaboration between designers, suppliers and installers as well as the innovative use of new materials.
